Are you a makeup artist / hairstylist / stylist, or all of them?
Which area do you run your business from?
I freelance so I work all over the show, but I am based in JHB
How many years have you been in the industry?
Tell us something you like about the industry
Working with people who are doing incredible things in the world. A normal 9-5 job limits the amount of people you meet and are exposed to on a daily basis, but being a freelancer means meeting new people every day.
Tell us something you don’t like or would like to change about the industry
There is no governing body for this industry so there is a lot of undercutting of rates as well as no protection from clients that don’t pay after a job has been done.
My pet peeve is the expectation that makeup artists should also do hair styling, they are different departments! Either book a hair stylist or pay the makeup artist double to do both!
Who is your favourite celebrity you would like to work with and why?
Kim Kardashian. She invests so much time and money in her face, it must be the perfect canvas!
What is your best skin care tip you can give?
Always wear sunscreen. Even in winter. Even if you think the sun doesn’t see you . Sun damage is very difficult to reverse, it also accelerates the aging process. And obviously there’s the very real threat of cancer. Wear sunscreen!
What is your 3 must-have product is your makeup kit?
- Black eyeliner
- Eyebrow powder
Which is your favourite brush/es in the Burst Brushes range?
If you could meet any living person, who would it be and why, and would you suggest a makeover for them?
I would love to host a giant workshop for each and every Shoprite/Pick ‘n Pay teller that has scary eyebrows. Ladies, I can help you!
3 fun facts about yourself
a. What did you want to be before you grew up?
I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up!
b. What scares you the most?
The rate at which people spread fear and hate through social media
c. What is the biggest love of your life? (not family)
Music. Every significant moment in life has a soundtrack. You can hear a song years later but you’ll be instantly transported back to the memory of that time in your life.
What is one of the hardest things you had to overcome in your life?
I recently watched my best friend’s father pass away – a man I have known since my very first day of grade 1
What is your life’s philosophy?
Life is better when you’re laughing!
